Board University

 The Board University series was developed to provide information and skills to both current board members and individuals that want to serve on a nonprofit board. It's also a great series for Executive Directors and staff that need to understand more about the roles and expectations of board members and how to keep them engaged. 


Those who attend all eight sessions will receive a certificate of completion.  

Sessions are held virtually from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm via zoom.


Members: $15 per session, Non-Members: $20 per session

 OR

Members: $100 for series (7 sessions & mock board meeting)

Non-Members: $140 for series (7 sessions & mock board meeting)

Principles of Board Governance

This training is for new and veteran board members to help you understand your role and how to serve more effectively.  Information will include the ten principles of board governance and how they relate to the roles and responsibilities of individual board members and effective board functioning, a necessity for successful nonprofits.


February 2, 2021

Structuring the High Performance Board

Overview on how to find, recruit, and engage nonprofit board members as well as how to improve board composition and effectiveness.  This session also includes trends in board structures, committee organization, and effective meetings.


March 2, 2021

Creating Strong Board-Staff Partnerships 

It's important for the nonprofit board and the Chief Executive to work together well but for that to happen each needs to understand their roles and how they should complement one another. Learn how to create those strong working relationships. 


March 30, 2021

Mock Board Meeting

Participate in a mock board meeting to learn more about how a nonprofit board should operate as well as how to address some of those issues that come up on a nonprofit board. 


April 6, 2021 

Understanding Nonprofit Financials

Board members that serve on nonprofit boards are legally responsible for the finances of the nonprofit organization. Learn about your financial responsibilities and how to adequately read those monthly financial statements so that you understand how the organization is performing financially.


May 4, 2021

Resource Development

Every nonprofit board member should be responsible for helping the organization to fundraise and there are many ways to get engaged in assisting with fundraising. Find out what nonprofit board members can be doing to assist and how to get them to do so. 


June 1, 2021

Effectively Govern and Strategically Plan

Learn how to more effectively govern the organization and what role the board should have in planning for the short- and long-term future of the organization.


July 13, 2021

Evaluation & Assessment

Evaluations of both the nonprofit board and the Chief Executive should happen annually. This session will provide insight on how this should be conducted and tools to conduct evaluations of both so you can set goals for each to improve performance. 


August 3, 2021

Mock Board Meeting

Participate in a mock board meeting to learn more about how a nonprofit board should operate as well as how to address some of those issues that come up on a nonprofit board.
